What Is Alternative Wellness?

When thinking about this week’s blog post, we felt it would be good to bring it right back to the basics of alternative wellness. Many of us know the basic differences between traditional and alternative medicines, but what actually are these practices, otherwise known as CAMs?

The National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health describes CAMs (complementary and alternative medicines) as: “When a non-mainstream practice is used together with conventional medicine, it is considered “complementary. Whereas a non-mainstream practice is used instead of conventional medicine, it’s considered “alternative”. Complementary and Alternative wellness methods include massage, acupuncture and aromatherapy to name a few.

Some may argue, why not just use methods that scientists know work? However alternative wellness therapies can have a great range of benefits, such as boosting your immune system, decreasing feelings of stress and helping you to stay positive.
